Alabama State Passport Icon Project

Alabama  gained its statehood in 1819 and was known for being a rural agricultural center. With Alabama’s bicentennial coming up in 2019, we were given the assignment to create a passport icon set that can be used for visitors as they travel throughout the state. These icons pay respect to Alabama’s heritage as an agricultural center. The earthy tones give the icons an outdoor rustic feel. The double circle that encloses the icons came as inspiration from city seals to show that even though Alabama is united as a whole it is comprised of by many smaller cities. I gave the icons a craftsman type feel by offsetting the color so that it does not sit exactly within the lines. I wanted the overall aesthetic of the icons to be playful while showing Alabama’s progressive nature of thriving cityscapes.
